The rebrand that killed our momentum, regretting our decision so bad.
At $4K MRR we decided to rebrand. New name, new domain, new visual identity. The old brand felt "amateurish." We wanted to look more professional. More enterprise-ready. Spent $6K on a branding agency. 2 months of work. Launched the new brand with excitement. What happened: Old domain had built up SEO over 14 months. New domain started from zero. Organic traffic dropped 67% overnight. Existing customers got confused. "Did you get acquired?" "Is this the same product?" Support tickets spiked for 3 weeks. The new name was harder to spell. People would hear it on calls and type it wrong. Referrals dropped. Our "professional" new look actually converted worse. The old scrappy landing page had character. The new one looked like every other B2B SaaS. Took us 8 months to recover to pre-rebrand traffic levels. MRR dipped for 2 months before stabilizing. The lesson: your brand is an asset that compounds over time. Changing it resets that compound clock to zero. Rebrand when you must, not when you're bored with your own aesthetic. Would not recommend unless you have a really compelling reason.
