Is New Horizons worth it as a lover of the older gameplay style?

New Horizons

So I have been playing City Folk since it came out on the Wii and I just got my hands on a copy of Wild World a few weeks ago and have just started playing that, and I love it.

I never got around to buying a switch due to cost of the console + individual games, but have been looking at buying a used one online soon (and if so, will be buying ACNH). My problem is, I’ve been concerned by the DIY crafting-heavy nature of New Horizons in gameplay I’ve seen on YouTube and online. I’m worried New Horizons will feel really “grindy” and be way too different from past versions’ gameplay. I also don’t know if I will like having all of the control in terms of the town layout and villagers.

So… how was the shift to New Horizons for y’all? How did you feel about the changes in gameplay? Did you get used to the crafting and the endless pursuit of DIY recipes? How is having the control of everything in the town?
