San Diego families, volunteers, seniors, and seniors deserve better than this cash-grab disguised as “traffic management.”

Council President Sean Elo-Rivera and the so-called “leadership” aka The Triumvirate of Dunces (Mayor Todd Gloria, Elo-Rivera, and Mara Elliott) are pushing a disastrous plan to slap paid parking meters across Balboa Park, our city’s crown jewel, and one of the last truly free major urban parks in America.

This isn’t about congestion. It’s about squeezing more money out of working families, seniors on fixed incomes, and the thousands of volunteers who already give their time and money to keep our museums, gardens, and recreational programs alive.

• Seniors who visit the park multiple times a week for exercise and community will now face new fees.
• Families bringing kids to the Zoo, museums, or playgrounds will pay even more on top of already-high admission prices.
• Volunteers who park for hours to maintain gardens, coach youth sports, or staff events will be nickel-and-dimed.
• Low-income San Diegans who rely on the park as an affordable escape will be priced out.

Balboa Park is not a revenue farm. It belongs to the people of San Diego—not to socialist-leaning politicians who treat every public treasure as a piggy bank.

Our beaches are already under attack with restrictive access and costly parking schemes. Now they’re coming for our parks.

Enough is enough.
