Considering introducing a game system to our 10 and 8 year old. Where to start?
I'd say we are a pretty low screens household. We aren't crazy restrictive. The kids watch their shows in the mornings before we get moving for the day. We have family movie nights. My wife and I watch our football teams play.
But we only have one TV in the household (in the family room) and one desktop computer. We have a tablet but it's only used for long plane rides since I was stationed in Europe for 7 years and we needed something to keep the kids chill during a day of traveling back to the states. It only gets used on long distance travel though. Never in the house. The kids share a flip phone when they go out and ride bikes together.
They are besties with the girl and boy who live next door and those kids have some gaming systems, so the kids have been asking. I'm not super opposed. We'd limit the use and our kids are heavily involved in extracurriculars that naturally limit screen time. Plus both are outdoorsy/athletic so I'm not concerned that it's going to overtake their lives or anything. We were thinking about starting with a switch and having them share. We were thinking about something after Christmas time. We'd prefer something that doesn't need to hook up to the TV since we plan on only having the one TV and don't want them to dominate the family room with it.
Is the Switch a good place to start for a 10 and 8 year old? Any recommendations on games? They play Mario a lot at the neighbors house. Anything else?
