19th Century English Property Ownership Records

I'm researching an ancestor who ran a pub for several years (1840s) in St. Nicholas Parish, Nottingham. I have a number of questions about things like how he came to be in possession of the pub, precise location and dates of ownership, etc. that I think could be answered if something like a deed record or property transfer documents could be found. I'm more familiar with US research where I'd just check the county deed books. Does anyone know what sort of records I should be looking for in this case and under what administrative authority?
