Hi all, wondering if I’m just overreacting about this. I don’t know anyone else who snowboards, so I figured I’d ask here. Last season I rented equipment from Alpine Valley in Wisconsin for a first time lesson. I was given this board.

I didn’t really inspect the equipment prior to use (I would assume that’s the lodge’s job) and went about my day. Fell various times as it was a first time lesson, to be expected. However, later in the day I noticed this damage. With me never leaving the bunny hill and only riding with the instructor, there’s no way I possibly did this. From what I’ve read after the fact, damage like this impacts the performance/safety of the board, and it likely caused me even more issues than would be expected for a first time lesson. I reached out to the lodge about it directly and basically just got ignored. Left a bad review online and just got a generic “sorry for your experience, we definitely inspect our equipment though!”

Overall I really want to get into snowboarding and I’ve since bought my own equipment for this season. This lodge is generally regarded as the nicest in my area, which doesn’t have a ton of options. I honestly considered buying a season pass, but the fact that they couldn’t even be bothered to respond directly to me about the concern until I left a public review, to which the only seemed to respond to assure everyone else they definitely do inspect gear daily, has left a sour taste about the whole thing. Curious if I’m overreacting about it all?
