Are older (90's) machines still worth looking at?
I'm in the process of finding replacements for all of my shop's Tormach equipment, and I've been seeing some rather enticing prices on older 1990's machines. Aside from the obvious stuff like lower onboard memory and lack of a USB port on some models, are there any other reasons why I shouldn't be looking at these older machines?
I don't have an issue with learning the 90's controllers, but I'm also looking at what goes into a controller retrofit if it ever ends up needing one - if I can make Pathpilot operate it, that would be most ideal since I'm already familiar with the UI.
For context, my shop primarily does R&D and prototyping, with occasional small batch production in the firearms industry. We currently use a Tormach 15L and 1100S3. The leading contender for the lathe right now is a 1998 Haas HL-2 that I found locally, and there's several Fadal VMC's in my area as well.
