The Hopper-El storyline would have been better with Mike with them.

If Mike joined El and Hopper, the audience could see more of his feelings and desperation to find Holly, as opposed to him feeling rather static currently. Furthermore, more mileven scenes would have been better for them to truly feel like the main, endgame couple. I think Mike joining them would have made the plot more interesting, simply because of the character dynamics between the three.
