Fall of Blackbottom: using canopy maps?

Fellow FOBB purchasers,

Can someone enlighten me about the best use of the canopy maps included in the map pack? I get that they show the objects above the ground level of the map, but what are they used for? Are they for achieving some specific effect in a VTT? What do you do with yours?
