Kato Christmas train issues

So I have a kato cv1 oval at work on my desk. I paired it with the kato chibi locomotive set https://www.katomodeltrains.com/product-page/kato-10-503-3-chibi-loco-set-christmas-steam-locomotive-train-n-scale

I didn't realize the motorized coach car was the powered drive in the set and thus this set pushes the locomotive.

The first issue I have is that if the motorized coach is in the rear, the locomotive and the freight car will jackknife and go off the rails. Placing the coach car in the middle will remedy this but then I encounter the next issue.

The second issue is the locomotive is barely heavy enough to keep the wheels down and at a creep will make a high pitched squeak and they just slide intermittently rather than roll.

Does this thing need a drop of lube to make it roll easier? Hesitant to do that as it will just collect dust. What is the solution other than running it faster?
