Knee pads?

I am 59, and have significant OSD tubercles below both knees. Most of the time things are fine, but sometime they flare up and I have intense pain around a tubercle for 4-7 days, making walking quite awkward. Lately I’ve resumed racing small sailboats (a Laser for those that sail), and kneeling on the fiberglass deck or in the cockpit is very hard, and is resulting in more frequent flare ups. I already use knee pads, but cheap ones that don’t seem to help much. Does anyone have a brand/model of knee pad that works well for active sports, and is water resistant and/or washable? I’ve heard that gel knee pads might work better at distributing the compression and protecting the tissues on and around the tubercles. Any suggestions would be most welcome…

Regards, David
