How to take time off work for surgery while on medicaid
Im 21f, only parent is across the country and cannot help. I have a 7mm bulged disc in my neck affecting my dominant arm, as well as some pretty bad back pain im waiting for an appointment to ask for an MRI for bc im not doing the whole steroids and pt hoop jumping again, something is definitely wrong and the pain immediately followed an injury that broke my pelvis, xray showed muscle spasms.
Met with a neurosurgeon who confirmed ill need surgery if my symptoms get worse, but Im realizing I won't be able to get a better job without the surgery. Most jobs available to me are harder on the body, and even a desk job would be excruciating full time. My hours got cut in half a while back due to company wide labor cuts, nobody but managers can work full time now, I barely get 24 hrs a week, and they're short shifts, thats likely how Im able to keep functioning.
In the meantime all I can do is make sure I have enough to pay my bills and essentials, do exercises to strengthen my core and back, and change the way I move to better support my spine, im aware. But what do I do when I need surgery? I wont be making money for weeks and im on medicare, so I dont think medical leave is an option. I saw short term disability was an option but how would I go about doing that? I just need to make sure my bills are paid, the car has gas, and my cats are fed.
Also, is having recurrent tonsillitis a contraindindication for another surgery or should that be addressed first to reduce risk of infection? Ive had 3 repeat infections since August, waiting on an ENT referral for another surgery to get my tonsils out. Tbf they put you on antibiotics for a bit after just in case right? Idk, I feel like a scared kid with all this going on right now, I apologize.
