Birthday Misery
Yet another year passes. Yet another birthday goes by. I blow the candles I’ve pictured in my mind. I suppress the urge to yell ‘it’s my birthday’. I sit amongst my colleagues silent as the night.
Who do I celebrate with apart from myself and my mind, those conflicting thoughts of joy and isolation are all I can find.
I close my eyes wishing for a rhyme, some warmth, a little cake, people amongst my sight.
I travel home, surrender my soul, calm it down, cry out and remind it that it’s old.
It yells for at least a hug, and I bury it deeper, soon it’ll feel no more, I’ll finally have no one I can bug
I wake up to a new day forgetting my birth was a delight, what I used to smile wide for was no more my right.
