Regret divorce?

Seriously contemplating divorcing my alcoholic husband after the holidays after a difficult period of acceptance that he will not change. He is my best friend and we have a lot of good memories and have been together 14 years. I also have felt deeply alone and sad for years. My question is, what is it actually like when you separate? Is the loneliness/grief unbearable? Do you regret your decision?
