Mirrorless camera buying advice

Recommendations

I’m a photography novice looking for a camera for two purposes - (1) to take photos of upcoming vacations and family events, and (2) to learn and explore photography as a hobby. I took several photography classes years ago and used to take a lot of photos as a younger me but haven’t been serious about it for about 25 years and stopped using a real camera around 10 years ago. For all intents and purposes, assume I’m a compete noob. I’m leaning towards a smaller model like a Fujifilm or OM, but I just don’t know what to do.

Budget: Up to $2,500 USD for the body and at least one everyday use lens. Country: United States Condition: New only (I don’t know what to look for used) Type of Camera: Mirrorless Intended use: Photography. I have no interest in shooting video. If photography; what style: General use- landscapes, street, wild animals, children in action If video what style: None What features do you absolutely need: Good autofocus at least until I get comfortable with manual options What features would be nice to have: Viewfinder Portability: Pocketable preferred or at least comfortable always over the neck Cameras you're considering: Fujifilm X-M5, X-E5, OM System OM-5, OM-3, Panasonic S9 Cameras you already have: Nikon D5000. It’s large and clunky to carry around. Notes: I need general guidance. For example, does IBIS really make a difference? Is it better to get a larger sensor over a smaller one? Does number of megapixels matter? For my use case, are more expensive models worth it over cheaper options? Etc.
