Mushrooms in a snake vivarium - good or bad? I keep finding mixed responses.
Hi y’all.
I keep my rainbow boa in a bio active enclosure at the moment. Leca balls at the bottom, then a mix of coco fiber and sphagnum moss. There’s one plant (long pothos vine) and springtails.
For the last few weeks, I’ve had recurring problems with mushroom growth. I thought the springtails would help, but they keep coming back. Humidity stays around 45-55% on average, plus daily misting and she has a large water dish. The enclosure has a screen top.
I’ve been looking at every post and article I can find on the subject and everything either says “mushrooms are good, sign of healthy soil, nothing to worry about” or “mushrooms = spores, which can harm snakes.”
Which is correct and what should I do about it?! I’m getting ready to move her into a bigger enclosure, but I don’t want to use this same substrate if it’s just going to keep growing mushrooms.
