🆘MONROE NEEDS RESCUE BEFORE 8AM, MONDAY DEC 1ST. HE IS DEADLINED FOR EUTHANASIA DUE TO BEHAVIOR DECLINE. 🆘 Nearly three months ago, this adorable, lovable boy arrived at the South LA shelter as a stray dog. During his first month at the shelter (Sept), MONROE received positive feedback from all his handlers: the shelter groomer reported that MONROE tolerated a medicated bath well, a volunteer handler described MONROE as a “wonderful gentle playful loving pup”, and playgroup facilitators categorized MONROE as a social player who did well with other dogs in the yard. MONROE continued to be a social playgroup player during his second month at the shelter (Oct) but began spending more time at the gate, preferring the company of people over dogs, and hopping in the air when he saw someone approach the yard. This month (his third month at the shelter) MONROE displayed conflict drive in one playgroup session and, consequently, began wearing a muzzle in playgroup. MONROE has continued to participate in playgroup without issue in the yard. But MONROE is now alerted for euthanasia because, recently (11/24), he displayed high arousal coming out of his kennel and bit a handler on the elbow - without breaking skin. Notably, MONROE displayed no issues with handlers once in a yard. Sadly because of his kennel stress behavior, MONROE is now “rescue only” and scheduled to die on 12/1. This young, deserving dog is eager and longing to be loved. He is frustrated and stressed by shelter life and spends entirely too much time confined to a concrete cell. Please, MONROE deserves to live and he needs a hero by 8AM, Dec. 1st.
