t-minus a week (ish) till surgery… thankfully!
i went on this sub about a month ago when i learned i had gallstones and subsequently had a gallbladder attack and freaked out. u were all super reassuring and kind and made me feel less nervous. well about 2 weeks ago, i had the surgery consult and my surgeon said yup… you probably need it out. she said i probably had gallstones for years (hence why i always avoided fatty and greasy foods and when i overate id get pain in my right shoulder) and that my drastic weight loss (75 pounds since february) probably led to the sudden attack after i had a really rich meal (i hadnt been eating much in these last months let alone anything rich and my boyfriend’s birthday dinner did me in). she said i have a LOT of gallstones according to my ultrasound. shes great! she walked me through the process of the surgery, how to prepare, etc. my pcp recommended her personally so i hope it goes well. i was really nervous about it, living without my gallbladder, but with this sub and my surgeon, im definitely ready for this pain to go away! my family has been very supportive and ive learned about many people in my family who have had them out that i never knew about. apparently my grandfather did (never knew) and the other one definitely shouldve (he lived on pepto bismol but old scottish men just dont go to doctors or so everyone on the scottish side of the family tells me). my surgery is the 8th and i am so ready to be without this godforsaken organ. im a teacher so taking off a few weeks right before winter break is very much not ideal (im literally gonna come back maybe a day before winter break… oops) and leaving my students for that time makes me stressed, but i need to do this before it gets worse. thank you to everyone in this sub for making me feel better and sharing your stories. i’ll keep you updated :^)
