How do I start hunting?

I am currently 16 and I live in Miami, FL and I want to start hunting. My parents are on the fence about it but won't be too active in participating with me. I am soon to get my hunting license, however I don't know if I will be able to start soon and might have to hunt in college. Do you have any tips and what animals should I start off hunting?
