The characters in the lore are really annoyingly hollow

I have no idea what the characters of Fortnite actually want or what motivates them to make decisions that impact the story. Epic can do literally everything else right and still somehow will never get it 100%. Like, these characters literally do things for no reason other than so they can make a reason for live events to happen with no explanation as to what their personal motivation and endgoal is. What does Jones want? His character has been dumbed down to "angry grumpy man" so I don't know. What does Hope want? I don't know either because she wasn't developed any further than "cool hero". I'm being asked to get invested and care about what happens to these people while not knowing what kind of characters they are or what relationships they have with the other people and world around them beyond surface level stuff because we hardly ever see these characters interact
