Windows 11 shuts down quickly not letting me pause to save

Windows used to pause and prompt me to save my office documents/ other apps when I try to close windows. Now it just goes ahead and shuts down (yes, it gives me one nanosecond to stop and save). How can I go back to the old ways so I have a real chance to save my stuff before window closes? Not wanting to deal with "autosaved" versions or losing stuff.
