Sciatica since 12 has ruined me.
Sorry for the shoddy formatting, I’m on my phone. (I’ve also never posted to Reddit before, but I honestly need to vent). I (M16) have had sciatica since before high school and am about to start my THIRD round of PT as well as starting spinal injections.
My sciatica is deemed not severe enough to work on, but so bad I can’t function properly. I wake up every single morning in pain and am in pain until I go to sleep and then I wake up from pain or nightmares.
PT was hard the last time I did it because I am hypermobile and the stretches didn’t work and actually hurt me. I know I need pain for physical progress, but I’m in so much pain that I’m callous and mean now. None of the doctors listen to me, but instead throw questions at me that I don’t have enough time to think about and end up answering in a way that is wrong to me. I have a lot of mental problems and I honestly think that the amount of pain I’m in is preventing me from getting better. I don’t know how to be happy when I walk with a cane at my young age, I’m laughed at! Everyone else with sciatica I know is old and doesn’t understand what it’s like to be in gym class and have a teacher tell you that he doesn’t know how to talk to you because you share none of the same interests since you can’t do sports.
I know there’s treatments, but getting help where I live is so hard and I lack so much hope. Does anyone else have experience being this young with sciatica or am I doomed?
