Feeling Like You're in a Veil

Social Struggles

I feel like I'm constantly in a veil. People can't understand me a lot. I have to always try really hard and put everything into it if I want them to understand me. If I want them to hear me, I have to scream, but then they get angry and defensive because I'm too loud or sound angry. It's like this veil is separating me from everyone else, and it's always there, obstructing the real me from the world. I want to be myself, but the second I try, people ignore me, like they can't see me under the veil. Or something.

My son is also autistic. He is 3 years old and nonverbal as of now. And honestly, I kind of envision him trapped in this same veil. It just feels like it's there keeping us trapped under it, just out of reach of anyone else. I see it a lot with him. I wonder if he feels the same way I do. I'd ask, but I can't understand him yet. But I wonder what goes through his head all the time. And I hope that someday we will finally be able to understand.

I guess, I feel that this veil dulls us somehow. Like, I feel like I'm just your average person wandering around but forced to wear this stupid veil, so nobody can see or understand me, I can't see where I'm going most of the time and I trip and fall on my face. Or end up with tons of bruises with no idea where they came from.

Sorry if this offends anyone. This is just my experience with it and it is exhausting.
