Blitz assist and retreating guard

Is it just me or does it feel really bad that you can retreat guard blitz assist? The new rocket fist buff is good and the wrecking ball buff is meaningless but still something but ever since the restand nerf when early access hit his assist has felt lacking. Both in combo and in blockstrings, especially cause I can't force pressure with it cause of retreating guard.
