The most important lesson from this show you'd never guess...

In one episode, some older man tells a younger boy "The most important thing you need to succeed in this society is a skill." It's just a line snuck in there, I think this is in the Gaiden.

Anyway, I haven't seen this show in years, but that line really stuck with me. It was like "Yeah, no shit..." but if it's such a "No shit" line, how can so many people fail to capitalize on this concept?

This concept of "having valuable skills = make a lot of money" is nothing new, so why do so few people fail in a capitalist system?

I would define failing as making very little money, not owning any valuable assets, not owning any means of production, performing unskilled labor, etc.

In LOGH, you see the on the imperial side that Reinhard and his bestfriend go through intense training from a young age. Reinhard is especially motivated since he went from "rich rich" to "poor rich". (Funny enough, I had a similar experience in my own childhood, although was never rich.)

Yang not so much, but he did go to college for his passion. (And his passion wasn't going to pay the bills, so he used his skills to do something that would.)

And unlike Yang, I was actually able to turn my passion into high income.
