Flight Credit Nightmare

Book a refundable ticket may seem like a good idea; however, when trying to rebook a flight I need to take in a few days, I was notified that it will take seven (7) business days to process a travel credit (mind you I have not had this experience in the past). I usually don't fly American Airlines and this whole experience made me not want to ever book with them again. Anyone know any way to get your travel credit quicker?

I spoke to a manager, William out DFW and he stated he did not have any way to expedite this process. When I asked for some sort of follow-up to review this process he mentioned it would be handled internally (which is definitely paying lip service) and was condescending.
