Anyone else feel like Austin landlords live in a different reality?
I’m trying to move closer to my job (North Austin) and I genuinely don’t understand what’s going on with rental applications here. I make decent money for my age, have stable income, have never missed rent, all that.
But every place I applied to wants:
3x rent
perfect rental history
a “mature” credit file
and then they basically want me to apply within 30 minutes or the place is gone.
I’m 27, I’ve been fixing my finances the last couple years, building my credit back up slowly and responsibly, and doing all the stuff adults say you’re supposed to do. And still, two different places told me my credit history “isn’t strong enough for Austin standards.”
Like… what standards?? Do they want someone who bought a home at 19?
I don’t know if this is just how Austin is now or if I’m doing something wrong. I’m so tired of being told my credit “needs more time” when I’m literally doing everything right now.
Anyone else run into this? Or is it just my bad luck this month?
