Renting - When should we start looking

Hey all

My lease is ending mid feb and my partner and I are looking to move, hopefully, without loosing too much $$.

To those that have moved this year, when should we start looking?

Financially we are in a good position but we do have a small pet, so I'm concerned that would put us in a difficult situation to get a new lease.
