Has anyone RECENTLY (<5 yrs) had an Intervention thrust upon them?
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I feel like Interventions just would not happen nowadays, or the concept of Intervention as a show would never work nowadays, because of the "I don't owe anyone anything" mindset.
I've been struggling with alcoholism for the past 2-3 years, and if anyone in my life has noticed, not a single person has brought it up to me, or asked if I'm struggling. This leads me to believe one of two things.
The first being, I am so insignificant in the lives of those around me that they cannot be bothered to notice when I'm inebriated. The second being, they have absolutely noticed, and they would rather remove themselves from the situation rather than have a hard conversation about it. This option I think would be worse because it would mean I'm not worth working through my worst times.
I'm sure it's the symptoms of the alcohol consumption, but it feels like nowadays everyone is so hyper-individualistic that it's just easier to point and laugh at the person struggling behind their back, than it is to have a conversation about helping them get better. I feel like most people have adopted a "not my problem" type of mindset where they see someone struggling, and they don't see this person as worth having a conversation with. And this is worsening my issues with staying away from liquor.
I have noticed the last few years a few friends not reaching out as much, and I can only attribute that to my substance abuse. I genuinely don't know which would make me feel worse:
That the people in my life have noticed I am drinking a lot, and choose to remove themselves from my situation, because I am genuinely not with the effort or energy to sit down and have a conversation with about my drinking.
Or that I am so insignificant and immeasurably worthless as a person, that the people I hold closest to me genuinely haven't noticed, because even those that are my highest priority, don't think about or care about me outside of their own personal lives. And I can't even blame anyone for this because everyone has their own shit going on, it just sucks feeling like if NO ONE has noticed how I'm struggling, that means you are just not important to them.
This has led me to think that at least in my situation, an intervention would never happen, because to those around me, it's easier to forget about me, or not acknowledge the situation. It is making it worse. I know no one owes me anything. It just fucking sucks to be in a cycle of People Don't Like Me When I'm Sober > I Drink Before Social Interactions > People Notice (? never had anyone confirm this) That I Drink A Lot > People Decide That I'm Not Their Problem > People Reach Out To Me Less Because I Am A Problematic Person Who Drinks A Lot.
Would love another perspective.
