How do people have faith?

I don’t get how people have or keep faith in god. Between shit going on in the world and stuff that has happened to me personally, I really have no faith. Either there’s no god or he exists and he’s an asshole. Maybe I don’t understand what god is supposed to do. I see people post shit about losing their loved ones or going through really awful shit and they’re like but god is good. But like if he was, wouldn’t he stop you from going through that? Or they’re like god is with you. Really? Then why do I still feel like shit. It’s so funny to me when people say I know it feels like you’re alone but god is with you. Um then why do I feel alone? Lmfao I would love to ask one of these people what it is god is doing for them. I guess it’s a way of making themselves feel better thinking somebody is taking care of them but maybe I’m just too jaded or too numb for it to help me.
