Dad Moving to Care Facility - Transition Advice w/ Dementia?
This weekend my mom and I made the decision to look into placing my Father in a private care home. My mom is getting overwhelmed caring for him (I am the only child and an 8 hour drive away)) and the dementia is accelerating.
Looking for suggestions / tips on making his new residence setup the best for him from a transition standpoint. Currently he is in an apartment with my Mother as they sold their martial home a few years back before the dementia has taken off. He now questions "when are we going home?" as he's already forgetting that they moved years ago.
When he moved to the facility I am guessing this will get even worse. At least the apartment has familiar furniture, decorations, photos etc. Anything other than photos etc that help? Grounding him in mementos / photos from farther back in the past etc so it's not 100% a foreign surroundings when the memory jumps happen?
