"Good morning, pup," Alice coos as I crawl out of the bedroom. I've been living as her puppy for two years. In that time, I haven't said more than a handful of words at a time.

She's sitting at the kitchen table, looking upset. I crawl up and rest my chin in her lap. Her hand starts idly stroking my hair and I sigh. This feels nice.

"I don't have a choice," she says, and I know exactly what she's talking about. A month ago, her job moved to another country. She tried to find something local but wasn't able to, so now she has to move. And she can't bring me. "I talked to the lady from the shelter again last night," Alice says. "She sounds so nice. You're going to love it!"

I can tell she's not really sure, but I don't want her to worry. I nod my head into her lap and smile up at her. "Good pup," she says before reaching out to take a piece of bacon off her plate and feed it to me. I eat it happily.

"She'll be here in a little bit," Alice reveals. "Time to get in your travel crate." My stomach tightens with anxiety. My mouth feels dry. I crawl over to the ceramic water bowl with my name hand painted on my side and take a couple quick sips. Then I make my way over to where Alice waits by the large metal crate. I climb onto the plush dog bed that fills the cage and curl up on it. Alice latches the door.

The idea for this prompt is that a loving owner of a puppy boy has to give him up to follow her job. He is a pampered pet and adored by her. She turns him over to a woman who owns a shelter, having been told that he'll be treated well. She was lied to.

The woman who runs the shelter doesn't care about the puppies in her charge. She is just doing her job. All the privileges he was used to at home are gone now. He could be kept in an outdoor kennel without a dog bed, fed cheap dog food, have a water bowl that gets changed once a week, and kept on a heavy chain. Even being allowed inside would now be a luxury. She could bring in some extra income by constantly streaming his abuse and letting viewers donate to send vibrations, shocks, or treats. Maybe she has forced exercise for him to do, or a toy for him to hump, or she could rent him out as a "tongue for hire".
