I had a deep conversation with someone I care about, and now I don’t know how to feel

I’m a 26M and I just need to get this off my chest because it’s been sitting in my head since the weekend.

There’s someone in my life (25F) I’ve gotten really close to over the last few months. We joke around constantly, tease each other, text a lot, and the chemistry is honestly hard to ignore. The big issue is: she has a long-term boyfriend.

Nothing physical has ever happened between us. But emotionally? It’s getting complicated.

This weekend a group of us went out. We had an amazing time, laughing, talking, and just genuinely enjoying each other’s company. Late into the night, we ended up having a pretty serious conversation. She told me that when she talks to me, it feels “different.” She clearly implied she has feelings for me. She looked down at the ground almost the entire conversation, like she was conflicted. She even asked me about another girl she saw me messaging and brought up that girl’s name a few times, wanting to know what was going on (nothing is).

But then she also said she wants to stay faithful to her boyfriend. I told her I completely understood and that the timing just isn’t right for anything. We both agreed that cheating is a hard no.

So that made it pretty clear she feels something… but she’s trying to keep herself in check.

What threw me off even more was the next two days. On both Saturday and Sunday, she texted me first, checking if I got home okay, sending photos from the night, joking around, making plans for group outings like bowling or pool, and even suggesting that the two of us should do a best-of-three pool rematch and teasing about who would win. The vibe was warm, playful, and close like that conversation never happened. No awkwardness at all. Nothing to suggest she regretted anything about that conversation.

So now I’m stuck wondering:

Does she have feelings she’s not fully admitting? Or is she trying to act normal so nothing gets weird? And where does that leave me?

I’m torn between pulling back to protect myself, and keeping the connection because it feels so natural. I guess I just needed to get this off my chest.

Thanks for reading.
