Seeking legal separation -it’s complicated

AITAH for wanting to make this official? Here are the facts, married 10 yrs, 2 kids in elementary school. I work in one state and she lives with our kids in another. I fly every weekend to her state for family time. We take 2 big vacations/year, often international and several smaller ones throughout the year. She’s in a $2 million house, in the same town as her whole family. Twice a year she comes to my state with the kids for about a week at a time. I also own 3 houses in my state along with my business which supports all of this and could not have been moved to her state. She moved there a year after giving birth to our first. I FaceTime every night with the kids.

I met someone, wife and I have agreed to ‘separate’ but continue living like we have with the only changes being that 1. I always (instead of usually) sleep in a different room and 2. I have her blessing to be with gf.

We both agree that we’ve stayed together this long for the kids and that we really shouldn’t have gotten married at all.

I suggested a legal separation as I need to protect my business and I want a future with my new partner. She didn’t like this, all of her concerns were about money despite me giving her the almost paid for $2 million house and continuing to pay for it until the kids graduate. I’m going to pay alimony and child support, obviously, I just don’t want to live in a pretend marriage anymore.
