Military resident moving out of state

Background - Been a Louisiana resident all of my life, only moved away for an overseas assignment from 2017-2019 then got stationed back in the state. My wife and I have a house, two registered cars in the state, and of course LA drivers licenses.

Here’s my question - We’re being stationed in California and moving in a couple months; what do we do about our drivers licenses, vehicle registrations, inspections, etc. we understand being in the military we can keep our residency, but we’re selling our house, which is the address on our license. I explained the situation over the phone with the DMV in Baton Rouge and they basically said tough luck, change my residency to California since we’re moving, which I know is false. Surely someone else has gone through this situation before….
