WIBTA if I give my brother in law a Christmas gift?
My family has talked about doing a gift exchange where we each draw a name and get a gift for that person and reveal whose name we drew on Christmas. We set price limits and decided to put wish lists/gift ideas in a group chat so everyone could easily get ideas for their person. During this process people had multiple opportunities to back out. I checked with everyone individually before putting their names in the cup to draw from. One person decided not to join in which was totally fine. We all draw names and I get my brother in law Dave.
A few days later I put the group chat together and remind everyone that we were going to post gift ideas for the exchange. Dave responds with “oh I don’t want anything.”
I clarify, making sure he wanted to participate and he said that he drew a name and wants to get them something but doesn’t want to get a gift. I am annoyed and disappointed because… A. He had many chances to back out B. I genuinely enjoy giving gifts C. Agreeing to a gift exchange and refusing to accept a gift seems weird and kind of rude.
Like I said I really enjoy giving gifts, so I want to give him a gift since he agreed to be part of this exchange. So… WIBTA if I give my brother in law a Christmas gift?
