Hybrid 2D+3D animation in Ep 8

Is this what they meant by Hybrid animation from Shimpei nagai? I have noticed during FF fight, During some shots the characters looked abit too in-model and consistent to be 2d animation during every frame and then switches to 2d animation for a few secs and then it goes to 3d animation which is rotoscoped and then drawn in 2d.

It's better than characters not moving though
