I Have Thoughts and Opinions
As I am up to date on the most recent episode, I have thoughts and opinions on the show and cast as a whole.
The Season:
This season is genuinely good. People have been saying since Season 1 that it would be wild if someone came in with two exes, and now that it has finally happened, everyone suddenly wants to be outraged. At the end of the day, this is a show where exes live together and drama is literally the premise. If we were only here to watch people fall in love neatly and quietly, we would be watching a different dating show. The mess is part of the appeal.
Honestly, this season is one of the strongest overall. Season 2 was great and I enjoyed it like everyone else, but people look back at it with rose colored glasses. The first half of S2 had slow and filler heavy stretches. Things only got exciting once HD appeared, the conflict with his ex started, and HG became relevant as the one catfish who actually mattered. Even then, bringing the last ex on the trip was not the best idea because they never have enough time for that storyline to land.
This current season is consistently interesting from start to finish, and the big twists actually make sense for what this show is supposed to be.
Men:
WJ:
I think he should move on for his own sake at this point. I obviously was not present for his relationship with JY, but I do not see them as a good match. I think he should focus on his business and eventually find someone more suited to him. I do not have much to say about him, but he is the better of the guys so far and not really a red flag unless someone dislikes a man who is busy. I know there is a strong K dating culture of wanting your partner with you during every free moment, but that does not work for me and feels like too much.
YS:
I have not liked him from the beginning, and I think he is one of those men who make you break up with him so he can say you ended it and he is not at fault. The funniest part is that he sent one text on the first day and has used that as the basis for why MK moved on, even though he never approached her properly. What MK said in the last episode was not great, but in the heat of the moment people say things they do not mean. They were together almost eight years and he cannot be the only reason they broke up, but it is still best that they move on and meet new people.
Also, if he did not have multiple girls pursuing him, he would be trying to get back with MK. I do not understand the hype at all, but here we are. He wants to be viewed as the good guy. Unfortunately for him, he is on camera, so we can see that his actions in the house do not match his confessionals.
JH:
He seems like the best guy so far in terms of low toxicity. No drama and appears to be a supportive ex toward YN, but he is boring and none of the girls like him romantically. If someone is going to be a CF, they need to be at the level of the current male cast or better looking, and he is not.
SY:
No strong opinion yet. He is a doctor and relatively handsome. It will be interesting to see his dynamic with HJ and BH.
BH:
I never understood the hate he was getting. He is the only guy who has intentionally pursued someone and even told his ex he likes someone else now. Was he childish at the beginning? Yes. Did he do anything crazy? No. I was not surprised when he did not go to the ex room because he does not want HJ back at this moment. Being upset with him over the three hour conversation was ridiculous when HJ was the one keeping him there, asking more questions, and he literally had to remove her hands from his. Things can always change, but right now he has been clear.
He and YN are genuinely cute together. I have been rooting for them since the beginning, and we will see how things play out.
WK:
This is where I know I might get hate, but I actually understand him, especially his logic regarding JH. Me and JH are the same age, and at this point in life love is important, but it is hard to build a future with someone who is not stable and who, from my perspective, is not doing everything possible to improve their situation. I would not date someone without a career at this stage of my life. He is a doctor, but I am not sure how lucrative his field is compared to dermatology, surgery or anesthesiology.
WK and JH have amazing chemistry, but their core issue is that they are complete opposites. This can attract but can also create conflict.
He needs to learn how to say no. The last episode really showed this with JY. He did not want to go shopping with her and even tried to bring someone else. Whether he was avoiding hurting her feelings or was simply awkward about rejecting her, he needs firmer boundaries if he wants to focus on JH.
People say he is leading on both girls, but I disagree. He has told JY multiple times to meet other men and he has not pursued her in any real way. She has been locked in on him since Episode 1, but the effort is not mutual. I have been saying since the beginning that he does not like her. The only way they end up together is if he has no other choice or if she wears him down. HeeDo is a true example of leading someone on while wanting your ex.
Regarding the wedding dress situation, I personally would not have cared, but maybe it is cultural. It could have been a long time friend and he was simply being helpful, and she is clearly marrying someone else. JH had the right to feel how she felt, but the issue is that she agreed and later got mad anyway.
When it comes to JH, she has also been openly pursuing his roommate in front of him. She left notes, flirted with other guys and did not hide it. I love her, but the first time she seriously approached WK was when YS did not text her back. She got no messages, realized YS did not like her, and got upset. She was not interested in WK until that moment.
WK also needs to improve his delivery. He speaks very bluntly, and as someone who is also a T and communicates in a factual rather than emotional way, I understand it. However, he needs to be softer with her because JH responds to warmth. Adjusting his communication style would help them a lot.
Women:
YN:
Why do people write YY when her name is Yoon Nyeong? She is my favorite girl. She is bubbly, sweet and not toxic. There is a reason almost all the guys have been interested in her at some point. I am rooting for her and BH, and her interaction with HJ after the ex reveal will be interesting.
JH:
I love her, but I do see red flags. She is controlling like WK said. I loved when she asked him to get the shirt back, but realistically, what have either of them done for the other to feel like they need to win their ex back? There is also a pattern of girls not getting texts from new guys and then lashing out at their exes.
There is a lot of miscommunication between her and WK. He reached out to her and she thought it was because she got a job, but that was not the case. I am glad she stopped pursuing YS because he was giving her nothing.
I would like to see her and WK get back together, but they both need to work on themselves. They have intense energy together and they are both jealous, which is not ideal. I still love her and will be rooting for her.
MK:
She needs to move on for her own sake. She is lucky that her long relationship ended at 25. Her last episode was not a good look, but I understand her frustration. It was sad hearing her cry for him in bed, but this is a canon event, and it is better to go through it in your early twenties than later. She is gorgeous and will absolutely find someone better than YS, and the Korean public loves her.
She is emotionally a bit immature, but she is also the youngest. She is the only girl who actually made an effort to date everyone, and I wish she continued doing that because the guys were interested when she opened up emotionally. She does need to stop blaming only YS, because after eight years both people contributed to the relationship dynamic. I am rooting for her happiness.
JY:
I wish I was a fan, but I just cannot. She seems perfectly sweet, but something feels off in the way she cannot pick up cues, especially in a culture where indirect communication is the norm. I think it is great for a woman to make the first move, but after that the man should show some level of pursuing. Even in modern dating, men still want to pursue someone they genuinely like. Being locked in from the first meeting is intense, but she is a lover girl and this is the downside of that.
She also needs better communication skills. For WJ to find out the real reason for their breakup only when they joined the show is shocking. People are allowed to break up and move on, but it is strange to tell someone they need to fix something, let them say they will, and then break up less than 24 hours later without giving them a chance. This is especially odd when that person supported her through trauma and did not harm her.
I hope she finds love with someone who actively chooses her from the beginning so she is not the only one pursuing.
HJ:
A very unserious individual in a way that is almost comical. Her bringing two exes is fine to me, but acting the way she has while knowing another ex was coming is wild. The way she gaslights BH is insane, and she needs to stop fake crying. No one was moved by her ex room scene and it looked staged.
She only wants BH now because he wants YN and she knows it. It is giving you cannot have him if I cannot. She had five years to reach out to him.
Two exes and a new love interest is hilarious, but props to her, I guess. Her biggest issue is that she is simply not interesting as a character. I do not even care to watch her dates with YS. In the last episode, when MK got emotional, suddenly she had fake tears and tried forcing them out. I wish she was more likable because with a different attitude she could have been iconic, but she is not interesting to me.
Crying as if BH died only for her new ex to walk in two days later is peak ridiculous behavior.
