Question about my son's POTS.

Question

I've been reading a lot on this forum. My wife is the one who does a lot of the medical appointments with my son, and he's under the care of dr.Snapper, who she loves but still, the progress is baby steps. His biggest issue is sleep payterns and insomnia. But let me start at the beginning..... About ten days after he got the covid vaccine. He started getting nauseous and faint and having exercise intolerance. This was the summer before his sophomore year in high school. He was 6'3 260 lbs and being recruited by auburn, florida state and iowa. He got so sick he could not play football, his sophomore and junior year. His senior year, we found a really cool coach at a local school, and we switched schools, and he was able to play because he was not forced to do a lot of the lifting and practicing. He's still made first team all region. He got up to 6'4 296 and ended up getting a scholarship to Presbyterian, which is a small D1 school in south carolina. After six weeks, the ncaa refused to medically clear him. He got frustrated and he was just going to transfer to KSU as they offered him a preferred walk on position. But then that didn't work out because it wasn't a presbyterian doctor it was an ncaa doctor and her decision carried over to all the other schools. So he moved home and now he's in an apartment, but after one semester school, we pulled him out for a break, because he had to drop a class, and he made a c in one class.Because he missed a lot based on his stomach issues and his sleep.

He has been diagnosed with POTS, DYSAUTONOMIA, EILERS DANLOS ( I'M SURE I SPELLED THAT WRONG) AND SOMETHING CALLED MAST/MASS CELL ACTIVATION.

He has stomach issues. He has horrible insomnia and sleep issues, and obviously as you all know he has issues with his pulse and blood pressure, etc. He now weighs 210 lbs which is football trainer told him he had to do. He said there is no reason being 300 pounds. If you're not playing football so he made a real effort to lose weight. Of course he's not having to eat as much. And he doesn't work out at all besides taking jujitsu with me. We train three days a week or rather.I train three days a week.Sometimes he comes once sometimes he comes twice.Very rarely does he come three times and sometimes he misses all three. It's not usually because he feels sick but it's because his sleep is so I'd upper. It frustrates him to no end, but I have tried cod, melatonin, magnesium and even thc indica gummies. Nothing works. One week he will sleep midnight to 11am and he'll come to jujitsu all 3 days. One week he will go 36 to 40 hours without sleep and then sleep 10am to 9pm. It prevents him from going to school. It prevents him from taking a part time job. We have plenty of money so we are not stressed about it at all, but he is stressed about it.He isn't dependable for school or an employer because of his health issues and we just told him not to worry about any of that stuff, because he's such a good kid, he feels terrible when he lets somebody down.

My question to you all here today is have any of you dealt with sleep issues? And if so did anything work? I own an insurance agency that we hope he will take over one day.But you have to be at work and you have to be awake to answer calls and return emails snd all that stuff. He's only 19, and we are luckily in a position where we don't have to worry about all of this right now. But for his sake and his mental health, you know, I think it takes a toll on him and he gets frustrated even though he knows he is safe and taken care of. He just doesn't want to feel like this, which I understand may never go away. He's under a great doctor's care. And he is making baby steps. But really the main thing in all this is his sleep and we can't figure out anything to help him.And neither can the doctor as of yet. Anyway, sorry for the long post I was just curious. :) 😀
