Fly to Okinawa or stay in Tokyo?
Hi. I just came here to Japan with my boyfriend for work. I have an employer who is training me to become an English teacher, and my boyfriend as a driver or for work in the gemba. I’m currently here in Tokyo with my sibling, but my employer’s plan is to bring us to Okinawa because that’s where we’re needed. We told our employer that we prefer to stay here in Tokyo, but he refuses to agree.
My sibling and one of our aunts here keep telling us not to agree to being sent to Okinawa because life is better here in Tokyo. We also keep hearing stories about people who migrated to Okinawa but eventually left and returned to the city. They also want us to stay together here in Tokyo in case of emergencies, and because arubaito (part-time job) opportunities are more accessible for us.
Because of that, we tried submitting job applications to different companies so we can find other opportunities and avoid being sent to Okinawa. But so far, no one has responded and we’re close to being transferred already, and we’re both really facing a dilemma. Please help us weigh all the possible reasons to go to Okinawa or stay here in Tokyo. 🙏
