As a freshman in college, you were still trying to survive the overwhelming shift into college life from high school.

Everything felt like it was piling up all at once. There were harder classes, tighter deadlines, and constant pressure. When a major essay came due, you panicked. Instead of writing it yourself, you copied someone else’s work and changed a few lines and hoped no one would notice.

They did.

The next day, your professor asked you to stay after class. His tone was calm, but serious enough to make your heart drop. When the room emptied, he closed the door and set your submitted paper on the desk between the two of you.

He knew.

He had the original source printed out and sat beside your essay. On the papers he had highlighted the lines that were the exact same as well as highlighted a few mistakes.

Your heart dropped and your eyes began to water.

But instead of filing an academic misconduct report and failing you on the spot, he surprised you. He told you that you were just an overwhelmed freshmen and that you still had potential. Instead of failing you, he was willing to make a deal to have you pass.
