Relocate to raise child near family? Or stay put with low interest rate
Hi all, I’m reaching out for a little guidance. Is our family making a poor decision by moving to California? If we make the move we lose our great property tax situation & our low interest rate.
We enjoy it here in Georgia but would prefer to be closer to friends & family who are scattered across Southern California. Our current home is a typical golden handcuff situation, we have a 2.8% interest rate from the COVID days. Below are some other personal details, what do you think - make the move or stay put?
• Relocating from Atlanta GA to either Riverside County or San Diego CA
• Family of 3 - together we net $160k after taxes (both work remotely)
• Conservative home estimate value our 3/2 at $590k, we owe $300k with our 2.8% interest rate.
• Disabled Combat Vet with mobility issues, which brings our GA taxes down only a few hundred each year.
• Only debt is our SUV -$550 a month. All student loans & CC are paid off
• We have an additional $100k ready for downpayment, a select safety net account of $30k liquid & 401k at $130k
