Eczema Q&A: Is there anyway I can tame the eczema without prescriptions?
Question:
I have been dealing with what I think is atopic but that’s me diagnosing myself. I have dealt with eczema off and on for about 25 years but I don’t feel like it’s ever been this bad. I currently have it in places I’ve never had it before and I’m at my wits end. I don’t love using steroids which I’ve been using every 3-4 days (triamcinolone) for about a month or so now and it only keeps the itching/burning at bay for that amount of time until I use the ointment again. My eyelids have been the worst, my scalp, my hands and forearms are now coming in second all together. My shins are what got me the rx but here I am now using it all over my body. I was prescribed tacrolimus but after reading through this sub I decided against using it because my eyes already sting and burn as it is. Is there any tips or tricks I could try? I’m planning on also seeing an allergist after reading through some posts here but I’m desperate and on somewhat of a tight budget. Thanks in advance!
Answer:
Hey there! I'm sorry to hear you're having such a tough time with eczema. It's so frustrating when it makes daily life uncomfortable. Eczema can definitely be connected to psychological stress. Sometimes our body shows physical symptoms when our mind is overwhelmed. It can be like a signal saying something inside needs attention.
When you look at psychosomatic issues, the idea is that unresolved inner conflicts or stresses can cause real symptoms. Your body's trying to address something that maybe you're not consciously aware of yet.
Sometimes, eczema flare-ups might connect to feelings of being trapped or irritated in some area of life. Maybe there's something ongoing that's bothering you, or a change that's unsettling.
Here are a few questions you might consider journaling or reflecting on:
-
Have there been recent changes or stresses in your life that might relate to feeling out of control?
-
Are there specific areas in your life where you feel sensitive or vulnerable?
-
Can you think of any recurring thoughts or worries that could be affecting you deeply?
-
How do you usually cope with stress and are there ways you can adjust those strategies?
-
Do you feel like there are past conflicts or unresolved issues that pop into your mind frequently?
I hope exploring these ideas can help you find some peace and relief from the symptoms. Feel free to reach out if you have more questions or just need to chat! Stay strong.
