Stopping meds with Stage 4 CKD

Support

My sweet girl, Panda is 17 and has stage 4 CKD. Her decline has been very sudden. Currently, she’s on Mirtazapine to stimulate appetite, Zofran for nausea and an antibiotic for a UTI. I am starting to wonder if I made the right choice in putting her on Mirtazapine… before getting on them she had pretty much stopped eating and was sleeping a lot, but she seemed content otherwise. Now, she eats about a teaspoon of food daily, rests a lot but not necessarily sleeps, her back legs are beginning to give out so she’s very wobbly and unstable. She is still extremely affectionate and wants to be near the family, even if she’s just resting near us - this is why I haven’t intervened.

I’m struggling with the thought that putting her on Mirtazapine, extending her life was a selfish decision on my part and that had I let her do what she naturally started doing she would have stopped eating and possibly had passed weeks ago, with fully functioning back legs. Am I prolonging her suffering because I’m not ready to lose her? It’s also been very stressful for her to take the meds. She’s often foaming and salivating a lot afterward. I am looking to hear from others who have stopped giving their feline friends these meds or opted not to at all. Also, I do have an at home euthanasia clinic that I’ve reached out to for when I feel intervention is needed.
