Anybody else fell you can't get a chance to do anything except die in this game?

So I have been able to complete a few quests for Rekt, but I've run into the problem were I struggle to progress. I play for hours trying to get some magazines, just for me to not be able to get the resources to craft anything I unlock. Plus if the zombie is faster than me than Im guaranteed dead. Also I can't seem to find any decent spice of food, unless I spend my money at a trader which I also need for magazines. Ik I gotta do quests but it feels like most of the time I can't complete quests, worst part is you get 1 chance at them.
