Is it possible to beat no More heroes 1 without recharging your beam sword?

I started playing the first game on PS3, and to recharge the beam sword there you need to shake the controller up and down for the motion sensors to activate the sword's recharge, but my controller is fake and doesn't have those sensors, so it's impossible for me to recharge the beam sword.
