Difference between Java and Bedrock Edition

Hi!! I have played Minecraft for about 10 or so years so I’m not new at all loll, I was wondering what the actual differences between Java and Bedrock are? I’ve played both but prefer Bedrock because the look is smoother, and tbh I’ve never really noticed any game-changing bugs like I hear people talking about. I’ve heard the pfp is different but don’t really understand why, could anyone please explain to me the actual differences?
