A couple questions about my furry weirdo
I grew up with and around cats so I know a fair amount about the basics of care and body language, but as I’m sure we all know, cats are all so different and goofy. I adopted my fur-son when he was about 6 months old and he’s almost 3 now, and he has some behaviors that I don’t fully understand, and I’m curious if anyone else has experienced this.
Firstly, he’s very high energy and demands attention all the time, but usually when I get a toy to play with him he shows interest for a little bit and then stops engaging. But if I put the toy down, he starts getting into trouble and trying to get my attention again. It’s not affection that he wants either so I’m not sure what to do for him.
Second, he sometimes goes down into our basement and just cries as if he’s lost or stuck. Then when I flip the light on he’ll just be sitting at the bottom of the stairs staring up at me. It’s almost like I have to show him that he can come back up all on his own. He’s not the smartest cat, but surely he’s not THAT dumb😂 Is this just an attention thing?
Third, and possibly cutest, he is obsessed with me when I’ve just gotten out of the shower. He cries outside of the bathroom door if it’s closed and then when I let him in he practically tries to climb me. He loves when I sit on the toilet (lid down) in my towel so he can curl up in my lap and occasionally nibble on my nose or chin. It’s sooo cute and I definitely don’t mind it, but I’m curious what exactly it means.
I promise he isn’t attention starved. He’s got a dog sister that he loves to play with, and my dad works mostly from home so he’s usually got a person around. He’s very affectionate and loves to cuddle, but only on his terms. Most mornings he waits for my alarm to go off and then curls up on my chest for some snuggles before I get up for work. He’s my best friend.
Anyway, this is a long and rambling post (don’t have a couple drinks before writing a reddit post) but I’d love to hear if anyone can interpret this behavior. Or honestly just entertain me with silly things your cats do!
