I think I know EXACTLY what was supposed to be inside of FNAF 4's box, and it makes too much sense to me.
So, I was watching WitheredCircle's newest video, "The Quest To Solve The UNSOLVABLE FNAF Games," and it got me thinking about the things Scott has said about the games, and knowledge we had about the story at the time. Scott had stated 3 definitive things about the game at the time;
1.) It was (intended) to be the "final chapter"
2.) 4 games, 1 story
3.) What's in the box? It's the pieces put together.
With these in mind, I tried to think of common threads between all the games that were known to the community at the time, and also, what we didn't know, as the box most likely contained the answer to some of the biggest questions at the time. If I'm remembering correctly, there were 2 main mysteries about the 3 games left to be solved by fnaf4's release;
1.) Who was responsible for the bite of 87?
2.) Who are the night-guard(s) we play as, and why are they enduring this?
I believe the box was attempting to answer the latter question. However, since it was never opened, Scott decided to instead clarify it in the next big fnaf game, Sister Location (as he stated he does in his interviews). What does Sister Location clarify exactly?
- The significance of the fnaf4 house (being above the bunker, tying it to the Afton family)
- Who the player character is (Michael)
- The player characters relationship with the Afton family, and motivation for being there (being Williams son and CC's brother)
So, assuming the box was attempting to answer what Sister Location clarified, and assuming that the player character in fnaf4 is Michael, I believe that Scott was trying to tell us that the 1 story across all 4 games was a story about Michael.
Therefore, to finally address the elephant in the room, what exactly IS in the box? To answer this, I thought about once again how fnaf4 was intended to be the final chapter. So, what better and more thematically appropriate way to end your series would there be than to call back to the first few games in that series? I believe fnaf4 was intended to end exactly how fnaf1 and fnaf2 end, with the player receiving a pink slip notifying them that they have been fired for tampering with the animations and for odor. But this wouldn't be a new pink slip, these would be the same pink slips addressed to Fritz Smith and Mike Schmidt from the previous fnaf games. The implications of this would be that the night-guard from fnaf1, fnaf2 night 7, and the character of fnaf4 are all the same character, as there would be no other way for multiple people to have all this in their possession. Presumably, if we play as the same character for all those original games, its not too much of a stretch to say we would most likely play as the same person in fnaf3 as well, which was later hinted in the books to be Michael.
This answer, of course, has almost no implications to the modern lore nowadays, as at this point I believe it is agreed upon that Michael is present across all those original games and beyond. However, at the time, it was still up for debate who these characters were and their motivations, and this answer would have connected all of the games together through Michael as the night-guard, or, in other words, putting the pieces of the 4 games together to make 1 story. 1 story about Michael. But would the community accept it that way?
Let me know what you guys think!
