OB rules

I golfed Indian Springs / big rock in indio Calif yesterday and shot an 86 - mile was driving the ball so great but I hit a drive and it bounced off a cart path into someone’s back yard along the fairway- every hole has homes lined up on both sides of the fairways - there are no white stakes or red stakes along the sides - is it automatically OB if it goes into someone’s yard ? Or is it considered a hazard ?
